This beer was inspired for two reasons, one, we had just brewed the Scratch n’ Sniff Harvest IPA in Westminster with Dog Brewing Company (Pub Dog) and second, Paul Rinehart had hops in his backyard to harvest. So while one of the other brewers mashed in, Rinehart ran home and quickly harvested his hops. We took bets on how much there would be, turned out to be 3 1/2 lbs.
All 3 1/2 lbs of wet/undried Centennial and Sterling mix went into this beer at the very end. The beer is named for Rinehart’s Dog, Bernie. IBU’s are a bit hard to calculate, since we don’t know the exact IBU’s of the wet hops.
Couldn’t come up with a name for this one, but it had cocoa pods, orange rind, and a wheat based beer. Get it? C.O.W.? Chocolate Orange Wheat.
The cocoa pods were grown at the Brookside Gardens in Wheaton, Maryland.
